Collaboration for Singapore Heritage Fest 2025 - A Tasting Journey Through the History of Bak Kut Teh: Song Fa and Pek Sin Choon

06 Jun, 2025

As part of the annual Singapore Heritage Fest, we recently hosted a successful and memorable culinary heritage workshop in collaboration with tea merchant Pek Sin Choon. Titled “A Tasting Journey Through the History of Bak Kut Teh with Song Fa and Pek Sin Choon,” the event brought together history, food, and tradition in an exclusive pairing experience that celebrates the evolution of this iconic dish.

Celebrating the Legacy of Bak Kut Teh in Singapore

The event took guests on an immersive journey through time, exploring the origins and development of Bak Kut Teh, a dish synonymous with Singapore’s hawker culture and culinary identity. From early Teochew-style broth to the introduction of modern side dishes, the experience highlighted the depth and richness of this comfort food staple.

Guests were treated to a bowl of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh paired with Pek Sin Choon’s Bu Zhi Xiang Tea, a tea that is traditionally paired with Bak Kut Teh. This was followed by an interactive session. Where participants were given an opportunity to take part in their own tea pairing session. Pairing teas and sharing their thoughts on which tea paired the best with Song Fa’s more modern side dishes like Braised Pork Belly and Fragrant Garlic Fried Chicken.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of this exclusive event, Song Fa reaffirms its mission to celebrate traditional flavors while engaging new generations of Bak Kut Teh lovers.
